A group of researchers found in the southern Mexican state of Quintana Roo the world’s largest flooded cave. Its length is 347 km.
As reported on the website of the research project Gran Maya Acuífero, January 10 researchers have linked two large flooded cave system SAC-Aktun and DOS Ojos. They are located near the town of Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Project Director Gran Acuífero Maya Guillermo de Anda said that this cave is the most important underwater archaeological site in the world. There is information about the first settlers of America, extinct fauna, and Mayan culture.
