The King of Thailand has given his approval for the new government in the country, bringing an end to months of political deadlock.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn has endorsed the new cabinet of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and the appointment of 34 ministers, as per the Thai government’s official gazette. Some ministers had previously served in the former government, which was backed by the military and was very unpopular among the population.

In May, the progressive Move Forward Party led by Pita Limjaroenrat won the elections but failed twice to form a government. The Senate, where many members are appointed by the military, blocked Limjaroenrat’s appointment as prime minister.

Ultimately, the second-largest party and the main ally of Move Forward, Pheu Thai, reached an agreement with the Bumjaithai party from the outgoing government.
