Japan registers growth of economy and inflation

Consumer prices in Japan rose in September. This was shown by government figures on Friday.

On a monthly basis, prices rose by 0.4 percent. On an annual basis, there was a decrease of 0.2 percent. Core prices, i.e. excluding fresh food and energy prices, remained under pressure on an annual basis, with a decrease of 0.5%, while the price level without fresh food rose by 0.1%. The Japanese central bank is still aiming for an inflation rate of 2%.

The Japanese economy grew again in October. This was shown on Friday by preliminary figures from Markit.

The index measuring the activity of the country’s services sector reached 50.7 in October, compared with 47.8 in September.

The Purchasing Managers Index for Japanese industry rose from 51.5 in September to 53.0 in October.

The composite index thus increased from 47.9 to 50.7.
