Israel began construction of a sea barrier along the border with Gaza and is going to complete construction by year-end, according to the Ministry of defence of the country.
Stone breakwater covered at the top with barbed wire, intended to protect the Jewish state from invasion of the Palestinian naval commando, who has in the past attempted landing.
“We are talking about only one of its kind the barrier in the world, which, in fact, effectively blocks the possibility of infiltration into Israeli territory in the coastal area,” said defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
He also noted that the construction boom will frustrate the plans of the ruling in the Gaza strip of Hamas, and would render it a “strategic weapon”.
