ZF представила гибридный кроссовер Renault DusterGerman company ZF has presented a hybrid drivetrain eAMT.

It is designed for a budget front wheel drive cars and consists of a conventional automatic gearbox with a single clutch and electric motor on the rear axle. Experienced transmission mounted on the crossover Renault Duster.

Automated manual with single clutch — in fact, the usual “mechanics”, in which the shift forks and clutch are automatics. Automakers love these boxes for extreme simplicity and low cost. But the disadvantages are great: it delays and jerks when switching caused by breaking the power flow. Plus the low reliability of the clutch.

According to experts ZF, their development negated the disadvantages of a robotic box. Operation of the electric motor on the rear axle aligned with the clutch. The electric motor comes into action every time you open the clutch. So managed to get rid of jerks when switching gears.

Electric rear wheel does work in other situations: with a sharp acceleration when you need an extra boost or when the front wheels slip on slippery surfaces.

Demonstration machine made in the form of plug-in hybrid. It implements all modes, typical for hybrids: this movement is on electric with the motor shut off, coasting, automatic shutdown of the motor and energy recovery during braking.

It is not known when the hybrid powertrain eAMT will be on the production cars. The target audience of this development — ultrabudgetary cars like Lada Grants or Renault Kwid. Probably first and foremost the Germans target the Indian market: it is there produced in RHD Renault Duster, and he just equipped with a robotic gearbox.
