Xiaomi accused of violating open source licenses

Xiaomi обвинили в нарушении лицензии открытого ПОCodes smartphone Mi A1 has not been published.

The firmware developer has accused Xiaomi is that it has still not published the kernel source code of Mi smartphone A1

The fact that all Android manufacturers should release their kernel sources – such requirement is contained in the license Linux.

Model Mi A1 available on the market for three months, but still no source code release on the official Xiaomi account on GitHub. This makes it difficult to develop custom firmware for a smartphone.

“I want to work on Mi A1, but it’s impossible because they have not released the kernel source code. @xiaomi @XiaomiUSA you are violating the GPLv2 license for the Linux kernel without releasing the source code for your device @androidone”, — wrote on Twitter of Francisco Franco, one of the most famous developers of custom kernels.

Note that such cases are not uncommon. Manufacturers, especially Chinese, often do not publish the source code for their device or do it with large delays. Beneficial against this backdrop stand the company OnePlus and Samsung.

The delay in the release of its kernel source code is a common tactic for Xiaomi. For their last two flagships, the Mi 6 and Mi 5, the company has delayed the release of the source code for six months. Mi A1 is only available for three months, so if Xiaomi follows their typical schedule, users can expect another three months.
