Belgian authorities discovered the disappearance of 10 billion euros of frozen Libyan assets. The money kept in the Bank Euroclear Bank and disappeared in the period from 2013 to 2017. About it reports “Interfax” with reference to Le Vif.

This was reported on four accounts that are open for Libyan Investment Authority and Libyan Foreign Investment Company. As at 29 Nov 2013, they had more than 16 billion euros. However, in the fall of 2017, when the power of the Kingdom after the investigation of money laundering was going to seize 16 billion, it became clear that accounts in total there are only five billion.

Means controlled by the closest associates of the ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi were frozen by the UN in 2011. The Belgian authorities have noted that he had not taken a decision on the unfreezing of assets.

Muammar Gaddafi was killed in 2011. After his death Libya is actually split into several areas that control different factions.
