“Values, which are now lost.” Famous coach told the true story of the characters “moving up”
Stanislav Eremin side by side played with the Olympic Champions of Munich
On January 25 in one of the Ekaterinburg high schools held a meeting of students with the world and European champion, honored master of sports of the USSR, Chairman of the coaching Council of Russian basketball Federation Stanislav By Ariminum correspondent Накануне.RU.
The meeting was dedicated to showing film “moving up” which was held with great success in all theaters of Russia. High school students a full team, I watched a movie on the big screen.
The script was written on the same book. Its author Sergey Belov – the direct participant of the events it describes, the player the USSR national team. Stanislav Eremin held with Belov side by side almost the entire career, played on the same team, lived at the training camp in the same room. And who does not like a witness of those events could tell children all the stories that have actually happened and, anyway, formed the basis of the picture.
“I was born in Sverdlovsk, with the characters of this film not just personally know that I with them played together for the national team and the club, – explained the audience Eremin. – I was not lucky, I’m in the Olympics was not involved. I was young and head coach Vladimir Kondrashin then don took me. But after that I played for the USSR national team, I was the coach of the national team of Russia, I have a lot of titles. But in my collection there is one most important medal is the Olympic gold. That’s why the film is so big, why is it everyone is happy: our team won the most important that can be in the life of any athlete.”
The meeting was held in the format of a dialogue with children. Eremin spoke about the history of basketball, about patriotism, about the players and characters of this film, what is truth and what is fiction. But despite the good press and people’s love for the film, there is a lot of criticism concerning in the first place historical inaccuracies of the picture. The creators for the sake of “dramatic effect” embellished some things, not to mention which is impossible.
So, the basketball player Alexander Belov the author of the winning throw in the landmark match, has died at the age of 26 from a rare disease, which is called “armored heart”. Disease during the Olympics in Munich 1972 and 20-year-old center has not yet manifested. The diagnosis referred to in the film, refers to a later period of his life.
“We were preparing for the world Championships in 1978, he was sick a long time and then came to the training camp for a long time deciding, he will go to the tournament or not going. As I remember, he ran two laps around the room, sat down next to me and said, “herb, I can’t.” It was hard for him. We went to the world Cup, after receiving the bitter news that he died,” – says Eremin.
“Sergei Belov, the best player in the history of Russian and Soviet basketball. He was handsome, elegant, score the most difficult balls. You know, there was such joke: how many players to Sergey Belov scored? Five. Two players holding him personally, two to insure, and the fifth takes the ball out of the ring, after he dealt with the rest” – says Eremin.
“In life it is slightly different from what shown in the film. Here, he talks a lot, is beginning to prove the word. And in fact Sergei Belov belonged to the people called “the real Urals”: proved in word and deed, exercising significantly more than others. Why was he such a good shot? Because all left tired from the workout, and he remained for another two hours throwing the ball through the ring. He was very strong-willed person. No wonder that out of the 51 points of our team in the final match of the 20 – Belov”.
Also Eremin spoke about his friend Ivan Edeshko who advised the creators of the film: “Ivan Edeshko was voted best defender of the 20th century. I think it’s easy to give through the ground this pass, where the Americans are so defensive? He had a brilliant pass”.
People whose fate is in many ways radically rewrote the creators of the film is Lithuanian Modestas Paulauskas. Basketball player in the movie hates the Soviet regime and prepares to escape abroad, which refuses at the last moment.
“In order for the film was intriguing, the creators made him so anti-Soviet, in fact he was a very decent and honest man – says Eremin. – Something reminiscent of Sergei Belov: the same “silent”, very strong-willed player who could in the most difficult moment to take the game over and score the decisive goal. And most importantly, he was a true patriot. Then our Homeland was the Soviet Union, he was a team captain for several years. And believe me, that big win never derivada when within the team’s every man for himself”.
Paulauskas is not the only movie character whose real life is different from the character in the film. Because some disliked the script of the film widow’s head coach Vladimir Kondrashin and Alexander Belov basketball player filed a lawsuit in court.Eugene Kondrashin and Alexander Ovchinnikov also present among the actors of the tape. Ovchinnikov was indeed a basketball player, just about to appear in Munich in the Soviet national team could not – women’s basketball at the Olympics debuted in 1976.
A name head coach, the Director eventually had to and did change with Kondrashin on Garanina. In reality, Vladimir Petrovich was the son of Yuri, who since childhood suffered from cerebral palsy. However, in the plans of the coach was not to operate on him that is abroad. Accordingly, the Kondrashin is not collected and subsequently accumulated to give the son money for treatment of Alexander Belov, and the players in turn, did not compensated from their Kondrashin prize in the locker room after the match. Kondrashin’s widow eventually managed to persuade the Director to remove from the script the scene in which head coach for my son illegally sells currency. Does not leave anyone indifferent story in the film is still preserved, but not everything in it is true. To avoid libel, the authors had to change the name of the coach.
“Mashkov – a great actor, but Kondrashin was at life a little different. He was very humble, but brilliant. After all, what distinguishes the genius: he saw, where no one saw. Accordingly such exercise and held, this composition saw. The widow of Vladimir Petrovich upset because actually Kondrashin was very unsociable, tried to get away from all the attention,” – says Eremin.
“Son Kondrashin was sick. He is alive now, he was already under 70 years old, he lives in St. Petersburg, in a wheelchair. He helps the Federation, indeed helped him and the players. It’s great that about a man do not forget, if he gets in trouble,” – says Eremin children.
With regard to the center Aliana Yarmuhamedova then he really could not see, as shown in the film, but the first lens custom was made to him after the Munich Olympics.
“Alzhan Zharmukhamedov originally from Central Asia, as a boy he studied at a vocational school. One day got his arm caught in the machine, as a result of the phalanges of two fingers was cut off. On the other hand, which he later used to throw the ball. But he was a great sniper. And a really bad saw,” – says Eremin.
“He even asked me when we played together, what’s the score on the scoreboard because I didn’t see him. Saying that he scored “smell”. And lenses appeared a bit later than shown in the film. Really in life there was a moment when Alana had the lens during the game. The match was stopped and both teams were looking for her together. It was expensive then,” – says Eremin.
“It’s great in the film, the Georgians. Very sorry, as of now we are served of relations between Nations. I have traveled a lot, played in Georgia was last time three years ago, we were met by a full house when we came to play veterans. They are so friendly! In the great film shows how the team came to visit them”, – says Eremin.
“They were, like, real>: and on the court and off the court.Zurab Sakandelidze were an intelligent, educated person.Mikheil Korkiya – comes from a basketball family, a real fighter. And these guys made to the final match its flavor, sharpness, thanks to its speed and “fervor”. Kondrashin put them both in the starting five, which came as a surprise to Americans,” said the coach.
In General, the reverence for the us basketball, featured in the movie, somewhat exaggerated. Pathological fear of Western players from his former mentor Alexander Gomelskywas not. In 1959 and 1963, the Soviet team beat the USA team at the world Championships, and it was not considered a supersensation. However, at the Olympic games up to that time the Americans really had no equal.
“Why was so strong Americans? When I first came to USA, I was stunned, seeing they have a basketball hall at the school on 5 thousand spectators. While students generally 15-20 thousand they are so popular basketball and it starts from childhood! And is led by the NBA, where they play the best players in the world – says Eremin. – The fact that until 1992 the Americans never brought to the Olympics the best, they brought very good players but young, who became stars later. And that’s when, in 1988, they again lost to the Soviet national team [by the way, under the leadership of the Gomel it – approx. Накануне.RU] at the next Olympics they came for the so-called “dream team” (dream team). That is, all the strongest.”
“The Directors of the film did that was interesting is that the Americans do they play hard and dirty. In fact, the American basketball is different because they are very good on the defensive, playing tenaciously, this was particularly evident in the final,” he explained.
The technique game by the creators of the ribbons are also embellished and adapted to modern mass public. For example, this applies to an abundance of dunks (“slam-dunks”).
“Judges are very strictly judged these driving top. First there was the wooden panels then glass, but the mounts were different. When someone was killed and hung, shields is constantly breaking down. Later, when they began to deal with this problem, there are special shock absorbers”, – he explained.
Eremin told the children a number of interesting stories from real life characters in the film, answered questions, presented them with a commemorative booklet autographed by Ivan Edeshko, and the tickets for the basketball game BK “Ural”. After he shared with Накануне.RU impressions of the meeting with the young students.
“When I saw the first movie, a little upset. I most heroes played together, played against them, and lived in one room, all of which I know firsthand, from the horse’s mouth. Something in the film however, something is not something glossed over. But when I walked away, I saw how the audience accepts this film, I have changed my attitude. I think that may be some historical inaccuracies,” – says Eremin.
“The most important thing that we have missed such films. The film is very good, shows a true friendship determines the real values: for men, for the athlete, shows the love for his Homeland. Why I came to kids? It’s very cool that such a fertile soil lie the germs of good. Let’s see how many around us is dirt, the children absorb like a sponge all in. Let them see that there are values that can be lost, which is not always the focus, but they are. If they all took the best for himself,” he expressed hope.
Indeed, one can say that cinema in recent years, has formed a certain trend to show and to remember the accomplishments and achievements of our Soviet past. But where are our new Sergei Belov, Valerie Kharlamov, Lions Yashin and Eduardi Streltsov?
“This is a very long and difficult conversation, the Soviet system was wonderful, many of our opponents, and even enemies have copied it, took the best and went ahead. And we took and destroyed all that we have accumulating over the years, and are now trying to copy what we copied. Can, hence such results. And, of course, what competition, what a selection, what coaches we have – this determines. But I have already said and I repeat: let Sergei Bazarevich [head coach of man’s Russian national team on basketball – approx. Накануне.RU] with our team will show that we have decent players and let a good victory will form the basis of new films!”– summed up Stanislav Eremin.
