Six American soldiers from Fort Campbell and two civilians arrested for stealing and selling military equipment on eBay to Russia, Ukraine and other countries, local media reported, citing a U.S. Department of justice.
According to the indictment, in 2013, eight individuals “sold part of the equipment of the US army, which have never been exhibited for sale by the U.S. defense Department as surplus”.
It is noted that the equipment was sold via eBay to buyers from the US, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Lithuania, Malaysia, Moldova, Romania and Mexico.
Men were selling “parts of weapons, advanced communication headsets with laser or optical sights”, the value stolen and sold equipment amounted to more than $ 1 million, the report said.
The equipment was classified by the U.S. Department of defense as DEMIL D that means that it must be destroyed by the military and may not be sold somewhere else.
All eight were indicted by a Grand jury in Nashville, Tennessee in the conspiracy to commit theft of important equipment of the US army and sell it without permission, it is underlined in the message.
