The President of the United States Donald trump extended for another year the sanctions against certain Belarusian citizens and members of the government. Talking about the restrictions that were imposed in 2006 after the elections, which Washington has recognized as undemocratic.
On the official White house website reported that the actions of these persons had violated human rights. In this case, refers to political repression, kidnappings and abuse of power.
Every year sanctions against Belarus extends and the Council of the European Union. Restrictions include an embargo on weapons trade, freezing of Bank assets and a ban on travel to the EU for four people suspected of involvement in the disappearance of two opposition leaders.
Belarus hopes for a full lifting of sanctions
Following this decision followed a review of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Belarus, where expressed hope for a full abolition of restrictions.
“We believe that sanctions are unfair and counterproductive. The extension of the remaining restrictions in respect of our country in the form of arms embargo and sanctions against the four individuals for the next year not in the spirit of cooperation between Belarus and the European Union”, – said the press Secretary of the foreign Ministry of Belarus Mironchik.
