On Wednesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this week Turkey plans to push the Syrian government forces from their military observation posts in the North — Western region of Syria’s Idlib, despite the success of the Russian military in Damascus.

For the last three months nearly a million Syrians have been displaced by fighting between rebels, supported by Turkey, and the Syrian forces trying to return the last major region in Syria after nine years of war.

Ankara has sent thousands of troops and trucks carrying equipment to the region, in the North-Western corner of Syria, bordering Turkey to support the rebels, and Erdogan has promised to push back the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“We plan to release our observation posts from others (Syrian government forces) by the end of this month, anyway,” said Erdogan in his speech.

But Assad’s forces have achieved new successes in the southern province of Idlib, where on Wednesday they captured a number of villages.
The immediate objective of the Pro-government forces is reaching the city of Kafar-tweed, the capture of which would force the rebels to withdraw from the broader territory, including their last remaining foothold in the province of Hama.
