This popular spice can improve memory and mood

Daily consumption of turmeric can improve memory and helps fight the symptoms of dementia.

This was stated by scientists from the University of California in Los Angeles.

In the study, the purpose of which was to establish useful properties of turmeric, was attended by 40 patients aged from 50 to 90 years. Previously, they complained of the inattention and poor memory.

Within 18 months the participants received either placebo or 90 mg of curcumin (a substance extracted from turmeric root) twice a day.

All participants underwent comprehensive examination, and re-diagnosis was carried out every six months.

Researchers found that those who took curcumin significantly improved memory and concentration. So, the test results on the care they were 28 percent better than before the use in food seasonings. And turmeric has had a positive impact on the mood of the subjects.

However, experts have found and side effects four people who consumed curcumin, complained of abdominal pain and nausea.

In the future, scientists plan to expand the number of volunteers, in particular, to include patients with depression.
