The Swedes believe the procedure is cruel treatment of children.
The leader of the right-wing populist party “Sweden Democrats” presented a draft proposal calling for a ban non-medical circumcision of boys, which the text defines as “retarded” cruel treatment of children.
Secretary of the “Swedish Democrats” Richard Jomshof October 3, introduced a draft optional statements about circumcision to the Riksdag, the Swedish Parliament, where his party is third with 18 percent of seats. Entitled “Prohibition of non-medical circumcision” the proposed text, which has not yet scheduled a vote, reads as follows: “the Riksdag supported the proposal to ban non-medical circumcision of children and announces it to the government.”
In an accompanying note Jomshof draft of the petition he wrote that the practice, which the Jews performed on 8-day babies and many Muslims perform later in childhood, “is a regular abuse of the individual child, as well as a violation of integrity and self-determination of the child”.
The note also discusses that several medical associations and agencies in Sweden are against non-medical circumcision of boys on these grounds, although it is not prohibited by law.
