Many people can’t even see Ukrainian films.

Last Sunday in Kiev was significant for film industry conference on the issue of rental of European cinema and activities of cinemas, art-house type, initiated by the International Confederation of art cinemas (CICAE Art Cinema), in partnership with the Association “Europe cinema” (Europa Cinemas).

Speaking at the Forum, the head of state of Ukraine Philip Ilyenko, noted that “from the fact that Ukrainian films became more, not getting more viewers. Unfortunately, this year each individual Ukrainian the picture has collected less cash than in the past.” The reason is that the releases of Russian films follow one after the other, and “the viewer has just one week to view. After all, today the Ukrainian cinema competes not from the us, and each other, from which everyone loses, ” – said the head of kinoodessa.

Comforting that the state is aware of a specific problem of the growth of industry and a systematic approach to its solution. Ilyenko pragmatically suggested that the volume of today’s market involves going from 22 to 25 of the domestic (as opposed to the current 40), and budget funds should be sent not to expand production, and to stimulate municipal support for the movie, promotional pictures or the fight against network piracy.

However, in fact, practice Ukrainian cinepolitics suggests something else. In the analytical overview of the European “EU”, “the film market of Ukraine: dynamics of development and the threat of a “Sovietization” of!” experts believe one of the main problems of the Ukrainian film market ineffective policy of state regulation, “where one audience-oriented film, which enjoys government support, have three to five with a disastrous box-office”. But, at the same time, is flexible to change the policy of state support, the government is trying to solve the problem of direct regulation of the market, pressure on cinemas and distributors in the interests of individual companies, thus returning the industry to the practice of Soviet times, and encouraging corruption risks.

Without changing government policy support for the film industry, its content and methods, it is difficult to expect that the growth potential of Russian cinema will be fully implemented. And opportunities for growth of the market is, and they are significant. If judged by the number of tickets sold per inhabitant, now in Ukraine this figure is equal to 0.6, while in neighboring Poland – is coming to 1.5. Thus, in the future, the Ukrainian market may rise to 60-65 million tickets a year, up from 29 million in 2017. And sooner or later it will happen, but I’d rather.
