The majority of Russians would not like raising the retirement age, they are satisfied with the current threshold of retirement, the poll Fund “Public opinion” (FOM).

The proposal to raise the retirement age support only 9 percent of Russians, 82% relate to this initiative negatively. His position of respondents is substantiated by the low probability to survive until the new retirement age.

About 19 percent of Russians believe that the government intends to raise the retirement age due to lack of funds, 16 percent explain the actions of the authorities unwillingness to spend money on pensions, 11 percent believe that the Cabinet seeks thus to replenish the Federal budget.

May 25 Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the first changes in the pension system in Russia can already happen in 2019. “Pension reform is not a momentary issue. Some changes may be adopted in 2019, and some will continue further,” she said.

In early may, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the government’s proposal of raising the retirement age will be introduced in the lower house of Parliament in “the near future”. The government intends to prepare a draft law for adoption in the spring session of the state Duma — until July 15.
