From the magic realism of Rob Gonsalves.
There is such an elegant aphorism: “the Eye is the window through which the brain looks out”. Therefore, from the brain depends on the perception of what we see around us. And it is this feature of the visual apparatus decided to use an artist from Canada Rob Gonsalves, creating his pictorial puzzles, and involving the viewer in their mystery.
Illusions are present in all spheres of human life – from the natural to the optical. Their first, the human eye perceives, hosted by far more advanced than any technology, and then connects the brain. And when we see paintings of illusion Gonsalves, almost immediately turns on the mind games.
These paintings are always interesting and whom did not leave anyone indifferent. They are designed for an optical illusion involving the viewer in the cycle of events. And the main task which puts before itself the author, working on his compositions – is to confuse the perception of the viewer and force to look fuzzy line, smoothly passing from one subject to another.
A little about the artist
Rob Gonsalves (Gonsalves Rob -1959 G. R.) hails from Toronto. His parents are Gypsies from Romania, who emigrated long before his birth in Canada. Since childhood, drawing was a favorite pastime of the boy. A 12-year-old Rob, knowing the laws of perspective, was addicted to drawing architectural structures and complex structures. It has played a key role in the choice of profession. After graduating from art College, the young man worked briefly as an architect, later created murals and theatrical scenery.
But the 1990 year in the life of the master was crucial. He took a prize at the exhibition of street art in Toronto and decided to radically change my life, seriously taking up painting. And inspired by the works of famous masters of the Surrealists Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, the artist has created a wonderful world, which has already entered the history of art.
Rob, by the way, and now prefers a variety of complex structures and architectural structures, but now they are illusory. And these illusions, the artist masterfully creates in his paintings that sometimes it is very difficult to understand where is the line between the two worlds through magical transformation, and the invisible metamorphosis flow from one incarnation to another.
Many connoisseurs of art will include the works of masters of illusion to surrealism, but most inclined to call it “magical realism”.
In fact, looking closely to every detail in the painting closely, the viewer does not find in them anything supernatural and fantastic – they are all very believable. In General, however, the image created by an artist – it’s impossible and unrealistic! The form and structure of transition elements are mysteriously transformed into something unexpected and surprising. Otherwise, how magic it will not name.
A thorough possession of the laws of perspective allow the author to skillfully use some items that are on the verge of a transition change on the other. So, on the one hand an inanimate objects, moving to the other side, become animate. And masking magic transitions the artist uses, as a rule, elements of flora, and various architectural structures.
All additional images in the form of silhouettes and shapes, even simple objects also create the illusion of a completely unusual and unexpected things.
Ideas for his paintings master draws from the real world, where everything is quite common and ordinary, but the inclusions illusionist techniques gives his work a uniqueness and a kind of magic.
Today Rob Gonsalves is very popular. His magic works literally hunt and private collectors, and corporations and the leading museums of the world. The fact that paintings from the artist not so much – no more than hundreds. Effect meticulous work on the smallest details, which takes a very long time. Four or five works per year is disproportionately little compared to the huge demand. And besides, a lot of time it takes the author to illustrate children’s books. Them on account of Rob – three. And it is for his illustrations he received numerous prestigious awards.
