Many rich countries spend on aerospace megaprojects a huge amount of money. Each of dozens of projects, which will be discussed in this review, are more than $ 1 billion each. Today there is much debate about how safe these projects for people, but underestimated their scale and value for science just will not work.

1. Rockwell B-1 Lancer

USA
Rockwell B-1 Lancer is a four-engine supersonic jet bomber with variable sweep wing, used by the U.S. air force. It was first introduced in the 1960s as a supersonic bomber with a speed of Mach 2, which was designed to replace the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.

Later the machine was upgraded to the model B-1B at a speed of 1.25 Mach, but much greater range and altitude. The U.S. air force took the B-1B into operation in 1986 as a nuclear bomber.

2. Boeing / B-52 Stratofortress

Boeing B-52 Stratofortress – the existing long-term program for the production of bombers in the world. This is one of the largest military aircraft in history have been in operation for decades. The B-52 was designed and built by Boeing and operated by the U.S. air force from 1950-ies. The bomber is capable of carrying up to 32,000 kg of weapons. The first b-52 took to the air in 1952, and plan to exploit it, at least until 2040.

3. Saab / JAS 39 Gripen

USA
Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit is a unique and powerful stealth aircraft, designed to penetrate through the dense anti-aircraft defenses. It can carry both conventional and nuclear weapons. B-2 has a crew of two and can carry on Board up to 230 kg of bombs with remote control GPS JDAM or sixteen B83 nuclear bombs weighing 1 kg 100 B-2 is the only aircraft that can carry large anti-tank weapons class “air-ground” configuration “stealth”.

USSR
Tu-144 first supersonic transport aircraft, made by the Soviet aviation company “Tupolev”. The prototype took to the skies near Moscow on 31 December 1968, two months before the first flight of the “Concord,” and was commissioned on 26 Dec 1970. The Tu-144 was one of the last commercial aircraft with a braking parachute.

F-22 Raptor – single twin-engine fifth generation fighter, manufactured by Lockheed Martin that uses stealth technology. It was designed primarily as a fighter providing air superiority, but it has additional capabilities that involve attacking ground targets, electronic attack and intelligence operations.

9. Airbus / A380

Airbus A380 – the largest passenger aircraft in history. It is so huge that airports had to be redesigned to ensure that they were able to make such aircraft. The A380 can accommodate more passengers and cargo than any other commercial airliner.

However, its developers claim that they are going to further increase its efficiency and also reduce fuel consumption and noise level. First flight A380 made on 27 April 2005 and in October 2007 was adopted in commercial service with Singapore Airlines.

10. Antonov / An-225 Mriya

USSR
Antonov An-225 “Mriya” – the longest and heaviest airplane in the world with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tons. It is equipped with six turbofan engines and boasts the largest wingspan among all aircraft in service.

It was designed to transport the Russian space Shuttle “Buran” Antonov Design Bureau (headquarters in Kiev, Ukraine) in the 1980s, the years, which has created huge cargo plane An-124 “Ruslan”. Basic configuration the An-225 is the same as the An-124, except that An-225 is longer, has no rear ramp and has a 32-wheel landing gear system.
