The Minister shared his impressions of the visit.

Yesterday, January 26, Minister of justice of Ukraine Denis Malyuska descended with an unexpected revision in the prison of Odessa and described the conditions in which prisoners and staff of the detention center work, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to Country.

About the outcome of his visit Denis Malyuska wrote to Facebook and showed the photo looks like a jail from the inside.

“Continued stay in prison without warning on Sunday. At this time, visited the prison in Odessa. Specially selected complex and problematic institutions, so it was not a surprise.

What caught my eye…

As in other agencies are extremely a lot of people see no reason to put. Below posted a photo of a woman convicted of economic (white collar) crime and are in jail in 2014. Criminal proceedings are ongoing since 2008.

Also came across a guy age 17, who is accused of stealing (been convicted of a similar crime (relatively, earlier). And the man who is accused of fraud (failure to return debt on the receipt) the matter which is considered the third part of the trial court.

Within a month or two plan to file a bill that will allow to filter from the prison those, whose presence there was inappropriate.

Cats are everywhere, and it’s not a peculiarity of this prison, a lot of them in a large number of institutions. One of the kittens climbed onto my shoulders. Understand why many prisoners like that.

The building and conditions (as almost everywhere), to put it mildly, leave much to be desired.

There is no one clear solution to the problem of drug-addicted persons In methadone substitution therapy is only one person in all of the detention center. There’s a lot more drug addicts.

One of the prisoners complained about the ban on the use of game consoles and set-top boxes. Do not understand this prohibition, and if it does not receive proper reasoning, it will be removed in the coming days. Adult males for months (sometimes years) sitting in small cells and only come out for an hour a day to walk in close courtyard. They need something to do during the day. Books and TV is not always a sufficient output. Conditions for exercise is not ideal

Prison officers live and work in conditions not much better. This needs to be rectified as quickly as possible,” wrote the Minister.
