Former new York mayor Michael Bloomberg has donated to Johns Hopkins University where he studied 1.8 billion dollars. He announced this in his Twitter on Sunday, 18 November, saying that with the money the decision on acceptance of students will be made “blindly” (without taking into account the property status of the applicants).

Written column in The New York Times, the billionaire explained the reasons that prompted him to make this decision, which he called discrimination against poor students who are not able to get a higher education. “Numerous studies show that students, regardless of the level of welfare of their families, after finishing College get equal income. But too many children from families with low and medium qualified, discarded (system – Ed.)”, – writes Bloomberg.

The billionaire said that he comes from a poor family – his father worked as an accountant and have never made more than 6 thousand dollars a year. However, he was able to study at University, thanks to the loan for national defence and the student’s job. “Diploma Hopkins University opened doors for me that otherwise would have remained closed, and allowed me to fulfill my “American dream,” wrote Bloomberg.
