The European court of human rights (ECHR) has rejected three complaints of residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk region who demanded from Russia and Ukraine to offset the cost of housing, they lost in the bombing. This is stated in the judgment, published in Strasbourg on Thursday, July 28.

In particular, we are talking about the complaint of Svetlana Piven of Yasinovataya (Donetsk region), as well as two complaints from Anton Lisna from Yasinovataya and Vladimir Anokhin from Trehizbenki, Lugansk region).

Despite the fact that the applicants have provided photo evidence of the destruction of their homes during the armed conflict and the reports of the OSCE, confirming the attacks, the ECHR unanimously rejected the complaint as not sufficiently substantiated. Also, the applicants argued that because of the attacks they could die.

The court justified the refusal by saying that the applicants have not provided information to local authorities, which confirmed their title to the destroyed house. “In particular, the court found that the claimants initially provided as evidence only their passports, which is not a sufficient justification for their complaints”, – stated in the message of the ECHR.
