Professor, Department of human resource management Higher school of Economics Elena Varshavskaya came up with the idea to reduce the new year holidays in Russia. According to her, a large number of days off prevents the Russians to succeed in work and hits the economy of the country.

The idea of reducing the Christmas holidays was repeatedly raised by Russian politicians, but it did not find majority support. For example, the LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky believes that the January weekend need to replace additional vacation days and leave hours on 1 January, 9 may and 12 June. Zhirinovsky cited statistics according to which from 1 to 10 January, from alcohol abuse killed 20 thousand people.
In the coming New year Russians will have a rest 10 days — from December 30 (Saturday) to 8 January.
