NATO does not seek confrontation with Russia and does not want a repeat of the cold war, told in interview Bi-bi-si, the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The decision to place four thousand additional NATO military in Eastern Europe is a signal of deterrence, explained Stoltenberg.

According to him, this decision should help to prevent conflict, not provoke it.

Stoltenberg also said that NATO believes Russia poses an imminent threat. The Alliance responds to the deployment of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine, as well as “nuclear rhetoric” which, according to him, the Russian side is using to intimidate European countries.

This week it became known that 17 countries-members of NATO ready to deploy troops in Eastern Europe. Four NATO battalion under the command of Canada, USA, UK and Germany appear respectively in Latvia, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania. The battalions will be posted in early 2017.

Russia is extremely negative attitude to the expansion of NATO’s presence in Eastern Europe. Expressed their dissatisfaction with this in Belarus.

Russia is gradually increasing its military presence in the West of the country. In may of this year, for example, the Ministry of defense announced the creation of the Western borders of the three new divisions.
