Scientists have recorded the most powerful explosion in the Universe since the Big Bang, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to Browser.

The discovery was made by experts of the International centre for radio astronomy research. According to them, the explosion occurred near a supermassive black hole in Ophiuchus supercluster, which is located at a distance of 390 million light-years from Earth.

Astronomers noted that the explosion occurred, the release of energy five times that of the previous record.

“It happened very slowly – like an explosion in slow motion, which lasted for hundreds of millions of years,” explained Professor at the centre for Melanie Johnston-Hollitt.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Experts plan to conduct a more thorough observation, increasing by half the number of antennas.
