Swedish scientists have developed a material for packaging dry food or as a trash bag from the waste of oranges.

So, researchers from the University of Borås in Sweden has tried to solve two problems at once – the dominance of plastic and food waste.

From waste oranges and other citrus, they created a material that resembles the properties of cellophane. It can be used for packaging dry food or as a package for garbage.

Technology of creation is quite simple. Waste oranges are crushed and turned into liquid slurry, which then hardens. From these raw materials you can also print more complex shapes on a 3D printer – in the long term it can be disposable cups and utensils.

At this stage they received the material yet “afraid” of water, but is decomposed very quickly after contact with her. But researchers believe that the technology will be able to finalize, and soon disposable items such plastic can be found in stores.

The project passport is published on the website for researchers, Research Gate, where scientists can communicate with each other and seek partners from the business sector.
