Saudi media: “We must learn a lesson from the success of the Jews – and to say stop to anti-Semitism”

Last month, the Saudi press has published several unusual articles that criticized the anti-Semitic talk in the Arab and Muslim society, and urged to avoid anti-Semitic generalizations against the Jews. The article said that the words of the Qur’an, condemning the Jews, belonged to a certain group of Jews in a certain period of time, not to all Jews in General. Also they say that blind hatred has prevented Muslims and Arabs to learn a lesson from the Jewish experience and to move forward in its development.

Саудовские СМИ: "Мы должны извлечь урок из успеха евреев - и сказать стоп антисемитизму"

Saudi journalist to Sah al-Qahtani denied all the conventional wisdom about the character of the Jews. She argues that it is noted in the Quran, the Jewish stereotype (the killer of the prophets, heretics, trouble-makers and moneylenders) belonged to a certain group of Jews in a certain period of time and that the negative attitude of Arabs towards Jews is a result of their helplessness and the desire to find blame for their failures.

“It’s time not to blame
in all their afflictions the Jewish nation”

However, al-Qahtani wrote that she believes in the existence of a “Jewish conspiracy against the Arabs”, but stressed that this conspiracy could not be accomplished without Arab ignorance.

In her article she wrote: “the Collective memory of Arabic culture was succeeded by the stereotypical image of Jews. Some see in this a reflection of the stereotype of the texts of the Qur’an.”

Saudi journalist Yasser Hijazi wrote two articles that urged to get rid of hostility and hatred towards the Jews in religious and cultural discourse, which represents the Jew as a satanic character, and even urged the Arabs to take part in the war against anti-Semitism.

“Since childhood I, like other Arab children growing up in the hostility and hatred of the Jews,” he writes. The explanation for this lies not only in the Arab-Israeli conflict and in the statement that “they took our land.” The cause of hatred always lay in one or the opinion that the Jews are the enemies of the Arabs, enemies of all mankind, they embody the most negative human qualities. Who is responsible for these words? Maybe it’s time to take a sober look at reality and not to blame all his troubles of the Jewish nation?”
