The patent application was filed back in August of 2017, but was an invention just now.
The office of the United States patent and trademark office (USPTO) has granted the South Korean company Samsung patent for a very interesting development: the document is called “Device with twistable screen” (Rollable display device).
This screen can hide inside the vertical modules in the left and right sides (see illustration). When folded the TV looks like some kind of block on the stand. Extending left and right modules, you can get the full TV panel.
The patent States that the twist screen can be performed using various technologies. This, for example, may be display based on organic LEDs (OLEDs) or based on e-paper.
It is not excluded that Samsung will show prototypes of TVs with the proposed design in January at the international exhibition consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2019 Las Vegas (NV, USA). By the way, it should be noted that the event CES 2019 twistable TV intends to show the other South Korean manufacturer – LG.
