The annual auction of a lunch with master investor Warren Buffett will yield a record amount. With just three days to go, the just under $ 3.5 million that was put down in 2012 and 2016 is certainly being surpassed. The highest bid now stands at $ 3.5 million.
88-year-old Buffett, one of the richest people in the world and still very active in the Berkshire Hathaway investment firm, has been offering wealthy bidders the opportunity to dine with him once every year for two decades. The winning bidder can join seven friends in restaurant Smith & Wollensky in New York. Guests may ask anything about Buffett’s investment strategies.
The proceeds from the auction go to a charity organization in San Francisco that works for the homeless and the poor. In nineteen years he has already raised almost 30 million euros for that purpose.
The New York restaurant where lunch takes place specializes in top quality steaks. Buffett himself, with his estimated capital of more than 82 billion dollars, is also known for his relatively simple lifestyle. For example, in interviews he indicated that expensive meals do not make him happier than a McDonald’s hamburger, where he has breakfast every day.
Also, Buffett does not live in a huge villa, but in the same house that he allegedly bought in 1958 for $ 31,500. Nor does he spend much on cars.
