Путин назвал виноватых в отстранении России от Олимпиады

President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend local athletes, said that Russia is partly to blame for the situation. On Thursday, December 14, he said at a press conference.

“We know that scandal erupted on the eve of important political events (elections). We are to blame, because it was revealed the actual abuse, but the background political. Other countries also reveal the doping, but this hype is not” — said Putin.

December 5, the IOC suspended the national team of Russia from participation in the Olympics in 2018 in South Korea because of a doping scandal. Athletes, not seen in the doping, were allowed to compete under a neutral flag. All Russian sports officials refused accreditation on the Olympic games, with Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of sports Vitaly Mutko — for life.

The IOC decision was based on the findings of the Commission Denis Oswald, who spoke about the existence in Russia of the state system of doping with the participation of the FSB and officials of the sports Ministry. Informant was the former head of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov, who fled to the United States.

Russia has been deprived of 11 medals at the Olympic games in Sochi in 2014, bringing the country has fallen from first to third place in the medal standings.
