Prosus increased profits significantly in fiscal year 2021, despite the coronavirus pandemic, while sales increased by 33 percent. This was announced by the internet investor with a listing on Amsterdam’s Damrak on Monday.

Net profit rose by 39 percent to 4.9 billion dollars and revenue rose by 33 percent to 28.8 billion dollars.

Sales at Tencent, which is the bulk of the value of the portfolio, increased by 28 percent. Prosus sold a 2 percent stake at the end of the financial year for $ 14.6 billion. After this sale, the interest in the Chinese internet giant was still 28.9 percent.

The portfolio of e-commerce companies increased revenue by 54 percent to $ 6.2 billion. There was a smaller loss of 429 million dollars, compared to 782 million dollars a year earlier.

“We have accelerated growth across our entire portfolio of consumer internet companies,” said CEO Bob van Dijk in an explanation. “Our companies are fundamentally stronger today than when they went into the pandemic and we are very well positioned for the future.”

Prosus invested about $ 7 billion last year to accelerate growth.

“We will continue to invest and innovate to deliver the best experiences for our customers and create as much value as possible for all our stakeholders,” said the CEO.
