The world premiere of the Porsche 917 took place exactly 50 years ago.
In a special exhibition Colours of Speed – 50 Years of the Porsche 917 for the first time will show the audience a modern interpretation of the legendary sports prototype with an index 917.
Show car, developed by a small group of designers and engineers, will be on display along with ten copies of the classic Les manovskii model.
The world premiere of the Porsche 917 took place exactly 50 years ago, on March 12, 1969, at the Geneva motor show. The first instance of a sport prototype – 917-001 – consistent with current at the time the technical regulations of the Group 4 and the number 23 were in the “24 hours of Le Mans”, where, in 1970, scored his first victory.
This Porsche was restored and brought to the Geneva motor show this year. The restoration of the sport prototype took more than a year. It has attracted engineers of the Porsche Museum, former technicians from Zuffenhausen and Visakha and partners of the company. Mandatory condition was to use the original materials, checking with archival drawings and photographs. To return the original appearance to the participants of the project required to print on the 3D printer front and rear body panels , and to restore the rear section of the aluminium space frame.
The exhibition Colours of Speed – 50 Years of the 917 will be submitted 14 exhibits. The total capacity of their engines will be 7795 horsepower.
