State police managed to apprehend a dangerous criminal.
One person was killed and at least 19 were wounded on Saturday, August 12, as a result of the collision of a car into a crowd of demonstrators in the U.S. city of Charlottesville, where the far-right clashed with their opponents. Law enforcement authorities reported about the detention of the driver.
The car at great speed drove into a demonstration of opponents of the far right, and then shifted into reverse and tried to escape. “In America there is no place for violence of this kind” – wrote in his Twitter the President of the United States Donald trump, who called US citizens “to unite”.
Meanwhile, the authorities of Virginia introduced in the city a state of emergency after hundreds of nationalists staged a protest against city plans to dismantle the monument to Confederate General Robert Edward Lee. The protest was supported in particular racist group “Ku Klux Klan” and right-wing extremist movement “Alternative right”.
Soon the demonstration turned into violent clashes with right-wing their opponents. According to official figures, more than ten people were injured. After the riots the police have declared the action illegal and used tear gas to disperse the troublemakers.
