Russians every year less and less say about their savings, said the sociologists research holding “ROMIR” on the results of the February poll. According to the results, at present only 27% of Russians have savings, one in ten (10%) Respondent admits that some of the savings he has, but some has already been spent.

As shown by surveys by ROMIR, the share of Russians who have cash reserves, year after year, gradually declining: in 2013 a “stash” was in 72% of participants in a similar survey, and in 2015 – only 31% of respondents. Now some cash reserves remained not a third and a quarter of the population.

Recognition 12% of Russians their life savings they have wasted, and 61% of the respondents noted that they have “extra” money and there was not. The share of the latter increased from 2015 to nine percentage points (from 52%). More often such answer was given by young Russians aged 18-24 years and representatives of low-income groups.

The majority (88%) of respondents with a cash reserve, keep funds in rubles. At the same time and in rubles and in foreign currency savings held 7% of the respondents, which, incidentally, is twice less, than last year (14%). 5% trust savings foreign currency.

Speaking of expenditures, 14% of respondents fully or partly spent their savings, announced the purchase of home appliances. The share of those who decided to spend the accumulated funds for such acquisition, for the year decreased more than twice. Among other expenses, the Russians indicated travel (11%), car purchase (10%), real estate (4%), jewelry (1%), education (4%) and expensive treatment (6%).

It is significant that in a business or securities the funds have not invested a single Respondent, while last year it made 3% and 1% respectively.
Survey data “ROMIR” is almost completely correlated with a similar survey conducted by another research organization, NAFI, in March 2016. He also revealed a savings of 27% of Russians. It deposits in banks, savings insurance policies, stocks, bonds, cash. However, only one in ten respondents felt that saving now for a good time. Every third (35%) holds the opposite opinion.

The results of the aforementioned opinion polls show that during the crisis, the majority of citizens have moved to savings behavior or even, as noted in the report of the Ministry of economic development, “in the category of observers for the trading process.” According to Rosstat, the share of income directed on purchase of goods and services last year was the lowest in the last five years.

“People whose income fell, are completely predictable, said “NO” to the Chairman of the Board of the International Confederation of consumer societies Dmitry Yanin. They have two motivations: to save money on purchases in the store and to try though something to postpone”. The expert reminded that according to official statistics, since the beginning of crisis the number of poor in Russia, there are citizens who are below the subsistence minimum has increased by 30% and exceeded 20 million.

“The fall in savings is obviously associated with a sharp decline in wages and other income, which is observed the last two years. For 2014-2015, real income decreased by 5.2%, in January-February 2016 the decline accelerated to 6.7%. The decline in real wages in 2015 amounted to almost 10% and became most profound with the beginning of the century,” said “NOR” analyst “Kalita-Finans” Alexey Vyazovskiy. According to him, the government is not paying attention to this negative trend, but because “in case of continuation of recession in the economy we can expect social upheaval”.
