Obama reacted to the exit of Britain from the EU

President Barack Obama said that he respects the decision of the British to leave the European Union and that relations between the US and Britain will not suffer.

“The people of Britain have spoken, and we respect his decision. The United Kingdom and the European Union will remain indispensable partners of the United States, despite the fact that they begin to reconsider the relationship between them,” – said in a statement the White house.

Barack Obama once again emphasized the special relations between Washington and London.

Before the referendum, the us President strongly supported those who opposed the withdrawal of Britain from the EU, and in April even made the pages of the British newspaper Daily Telegraph column c, in which he described the benefits of continued membership in the European Union.

This step of the President of the United States was criticized in Britain, as many felt that the publication of an attempt to interfere in the internal Affairs of another country.

Disappointment with the results of the referendum had previously expressed the Vice-President of the United States Joe Biden.

“I must say that we expected a different result… However, the United States has long maintained friendly ties with the United Kingdom and this particular approach will continue,” he said.

Biden also said that Washington respects the choice of the British people.
