Myths on black feet

At the meeting of the “round table”, held on 12 may in the conference hall of Central Board of Rosokhotrybolovsoyuz and dedicated to the development of evidence-based approaches to the preparation of standards breeds decoy ducks, sounded the opinion of the Chairman, CLASPIN V. A. Lobanova’s disappearance in the misty past of the once famous Tula and Semenov decoy ducks”.

About Semenov I can not judge, seen them enough for getting a personal experience. But what they have with them continue to hunt, we know from members of the “round table” of the Nizhniy Novgorod, Ivanovo and Moscow regions. Also cannot agree with the statement Lobanov V. A., Semenov ducks “are genetic garbage” in the rock decoy ducks. The small amount I’ve seen of Semenovich” made a good impression, and even became the winners of the decoy competition in Tula. The expression “genetic garbage”, but biting sound, requires justification, which the “round table” we have not heard. Where it is proved the relationship between color forms and mannisto? In our opinion, the people’s choice has always been on working qualities and in the garbage it fell just rejection!

On the Tula of the same ducks will stop in more detail. Allow me some quotes from the book by V. V. Ryabov “predatory”. Here is what he writes in 1966 about Tula ducks: “…medium-sized wide weft (the smallest of all…), on low legs with dark-colored plumage. Tula duck is very similar to the gray polukarova, but differs from the latter darker plumage; feet of tulecke dark, some almost black; bill short, rather narrow. Drake in breeding plumage is much darker than the wild Mallard”.

In the 19th century at the Nizhny Novgorod fair “…especially prized purebred small chernolesye of tulecke — Tula duck.”

“In Nizhny Novgorod in the early 20-ies were many great lovers and connoisseurs of this hunting among urban and among Zavolzhsky hunters. Some of them had delivered their ducks from the Voronezh and Tula provinces”.

“Not long, about 30 years ago, hunting with decoy ducks spread to Petrograd and Vologda hunters”.
About the small size and outstanding working qualities of touschek writes one of the best modern scholars of the decoy ducks S. Yu. Fokin. “I’ve seen perfectly working dainty little Tula ducks” (“HORN” № 14, 2003).

Thus, the small size coupled with the dark color of the beak and legs are, according to these authors, the typical external signs of “purebred” Tula duck. And without outstanding working qualities it is hard to imagine such a wide spread in different regions of Russia this little “malumanay” birds.
We now turn to the recent past. When meeting with members of the breeders Club of Russian decoy (CLBU) Tula region with numerous competitions among the owners of the ducks of the 18 regions of the country, we have met these or other symptoms alleged “Tulskoe” among the exposed population. Across the individual instances that exactly match the description of V. V. Ryabov. But it is small. Among these Blackfeet “telecheck” rarely met a good running ducks! Reached paradoxes. So the owner of one of the hunting in “zero” years, focusing on chernomorest, chernomorest and grow about 40 ducks, was forced during the hunt to buy for hunting ducks working another Tula breeder. And not having the result, he eventually refused the Blackfeet experiments and began to raise ducks without regard to the opinion of V. V. Ryabov. So did the other breeder later without achieving results among the 60 Blackfeet, chernonogih decoy. Intrigued by these experiments and their results, I found it relevant to gather information from veterans of the hunting community in Tula region. With the help of the staff of the Tula regional public organization of hunters and fishermen (Chairman I. N. Vishnyakova) I was able to visit and have a long conversation with Viktor Nikolaevich by Akimovym and Dmitry by Chernopyatov.

V. N. Akimtsev — known Tula volchatnik, personally produced in the postwar years, more than 200 wolves, hunted them, leaving in the monthly trip by order of the Executive Committee and datachem Trokair P. Y. Kuleshov. These trips took place in the territories of the Tula region with a stop in the adjacent districts of Kaluga and Bryansk regions. Started hunting expedition for the destruction of wolves, usually with the nursery decoy ducks of Society who also headed the P. Y. Kuleshov. There and back hunters. During the years of the wanderings of a young V. N. Akimtsev became friends with a senior companion and repeatedly over more than 20 years, regularly visited the nursery Treoir. These trips and familiarity with ducks nursery occurred since 1946.
It should be noted that P. Y. Kuleshov a boy before the revolution, started to work criticim and then viestica in Pershino hunt His Imperial Highness the Grand Duke N. N. Romanova. He and his teacher Mikhail Mamkin after the revolution transferred the number of decoy ducks from the nursery of the village Pershin, creating nursery Companies. Nursery this lasted until the 70-ies, and then the livestock are dispersed among hunters in Tula region.

Another veteran — D. S. chernopyatov is the son of the Chairman of the Society in those years S. I. Chernopyatov and practically grew up in the nursery, from a young age watching duck population. His acquaintance with the decoy had 50-70 years of the last century.

Both men, whose opinions are no reason not to trust, for over 60 years, watched ducks nursery and its “affiliates” personally, and P. Y. Kuleshov had more and observations from pre-revolutionary times. Thus, the period of observations covers a period of more than one hundred years.

Both sources in one voice say that the ducks were “such as now”. That is, their overall color, size, beaks and legs were of different colors. None of the shades they are not selected and not selected. The selection was carried out only by Manne qualities, and radical clumsy way — the most effective way of people’s artificial selection.
Now back to V. V. Ryabov. Where in the creation of classic we can find a description of any significant population of Tula ducks? Where the description of the other signs of how purebred”? For example, here is the story from the other bird breeding Tula — Tula Boytsov goose. A full description of this breed was made in the journal “Poultry” I. Bozinym in 1895. As they say, from beak to tip of tail. This description and still serves as the standard of the breed. In the book by V. V. Ryabov we do not find! More probable is the description of individual encounters of the author with the Blackfeet and Chervonoye telecome. A conscientious author that he saw it and described. These ducks are now breeders in Tula region. Anyone interested to take them on exterior Blackfoot patterns, can do it now. The flag, as they say, in hand.
In the end I note:

1. The myth of the “purebred small chernonogih of telecheck on dark legs” is based on a couple of lines V. V. Ryabov, wandering from the date of publication of the book from publication to publication, and is not supported by any thorough observations of other authors.
2. Connection of the external exterior signs such as chernomorest and Chersonesos, with working qualities in Tula weft no scientific studies or people’s experience is not confirmed.
3. The small size of Tula ducks require comparative measurements with manami ducks other regions, as among Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Moscow, Orlov, Ryazan, and Tula Semenov ducks, seen by the author of the article had a “large” and “small” individuals.

Thus, neither Chersonesos nor chernomorest was not informed and are not now typical signs Tula decoy ducks, which is confirmed by observations of witnesses for over one hundred years!
But the real Tula duck was, is, and will be selected for working qualities. Without looking at the tanned legs!
