The Taiwanese company MediaTek has decided to abandon the launch of the flagship processors and focus on “the mid-price segment”.

About it the General Director of MediaTek international sales, Finbarr Moynihan said in an interview with Gearburn.

This decision was taken after sales of the processor Helio X30 was much worse than the very successful model Helio X20 and products of competing brands. Helio X30 came out a few months ago, but only used in one smartphone from a major manufacturer – Meizu Pro 7 Plus.

“The chipset and the modem must be able to meet the requirements of modem high-class for the United States, Europe, China, Japan, Africa, India, isn’t it? Usually need the latest and fastest features. Our X30 is probably not at this level … from the point of view of all global requirements,” acknowledged Finbarr Moynihan.

The company decided to take a course on the mid-price segment. It is the chips of this class, such as Helio P20, are most in demand among manufacturers. Apparently, in the coming years we will see new high-end solutions from Mediatek.

“I would like to say that at the moment we take a little break. I think you’ll see something new eventually, but to be honest, we haven’t decided yet. I don’t think we’re going to try to make the top processors in the next year or two,” – said General Director of MediaTek.
