They live in wealthy people from India.
Photographer and traveler Yuri Segalerba made wonderful pictures of the Bolivian city of El Alto, which is 4 thousand meters above sea level. But geographical location is not the only thing that may surprise this town. It affects, above all, unusual and colorful mansions in the style of Nuevo Andino, created by self-taught architect Freddy Mamani Silvestre.
High-rise buildings with geometrically regular facades screaming colors and large Windows call zaletami (cholets) – French chalet (“Chalet”, a big house) and local, satisfied, scornful of the word cholo, indicating the Aymara.
In recent years, in El Alto there was a large stratum of the population, consisting of wealthy Indians, the Aymara, and they bought a nice coleta local architect. This new middle class of El Alto, and extravagant new style Nuevo Andino is a reflection of the changes that added the city of brightness and color.
Coleta have a clearly specified structure: on the ground floor there usually are small shops and benches on the second – large party room on the third housing for rent (so that the owners could “recapture” the cost of the building), and on the top, in fact, are the apartment owners.
These interesting and colorful buildings were a symbol of economic prosperity of El Alto and Bolivia in General.
