In the Tver district court of Moscow held a hearing on the case against the head of Hermitage Capital of William Browder and his business partner Ivan Cherkasov, the three accused in deliberate bankruptcy. During the process the lawyer Cherkasov told about the disappearance of more than a hundred volumes of evidence of innocence of the defendants. About it reports RBC.

According to the lawyer, during the preliminary investigation “a huge number of volumes” were sent for examination. More than a hundred volumes disappeared along with the evidence of innocence of his clients. In addition, the defense did not have time to examine some of the missing materials.

It already the second criminal case against Browder. Investigators believe that the financier together with his business partner used a scheme for tax evasion. When the investigation began, he and Cherkasov withdrew funds from the company “Distant steppe” that led to its bankruptcy. Session in the Tver court was held in absentia because the defendants are located outside of Russia. The prosecution insists that the amount of damage caused by them is estimated at 3.5 billion rubles.

In 2008, lawyer of Browder’s Fund Hermitage Capital Management Sergey Magnitsky was arrested on charges on evasion of Fund from taxes. According to Browder, it was fabricated, since Magnitsky was the one who opened the scheme of plunder of means from the Russian budget and responsible for the illegal withdrawal. In 2009 Sergei Magnitsky died in a Moscow detention center No. 1 “Matrosskaya Tishina”.
