В ОАЭ появятся коралловые садыThe authorities of the United Arab Emirates is preparing a unique eco-project – coral gardens.

The Ministry of climate change and the environment the UAE have begun to establish three coral gardens on a total area of 850 sq ft in the Emirates of RAS al Khaimah, Umm al Quwain and Ajman.

The Ministry is working on the restoration of ecosystems to provide a natural habitat for several marine species. This will help to ensure a significant increase in fish stocks. In addition, the project will greatly enhance the sustainability of natural ecosystems, maintain biodiversity and reduce the impacts of climate change and help reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by isolating carbon dioxide.

Dr. Saif Mohammed al GAIS, Director General of the Department of environmental protection and the development of RAS al Khaimah, confirmed that coral gardens save fish stocks.

“Management in cooperation with the Ministry already cultivated 650 species of coral and created 703 artificial caves as part of our strategy to expand marine biodiversity in the Emirate,” said he.

The Ministry last month announced two environmental initiatives. The first initiative – the planting of 30 thousand mangrove trees, and the second – growing coral gardens, designed for the development of coastal and marine areas in the UAE.
