The picture of Ilya Repin “Ivan the terrible and his son Ivan”, located in the permanent exhibition of the State Tretyakov gallery, was damaged, reports “Interfax”.
Vandal metal bar of the fence broke the glass protecting the picture. Work withdrawn from the exposition and transferred to the restoration workshop. The suspect is detained.
“The painting is seriously damaged, — said the representatives of the Tretyakov gallery. The canvas is broken in three places in the Central part of the work on the figure of the Prince. From falling glass was badly damaged art frame. By happy coincidence, the most valuable — the images of the faces and hands of the king and the Prince — was hurt”.
Conservators carry out urgent emergency work, removed the broken glass, made the removal of the painting and frame.
The painting “Ivan the terrible and his son Ivan on 16 November 1581” (also known as “Ivan the terrible kills his son”) were painted by Russian artist Ilya Repin from 1883 to 1885, and in 1885, purchased by the founder of the Tretyakov gallery Pavel Tretyakov from the author during the exposure of the “Society of traveling art exhibitions”. The canvas is represented in the permanent exhibition of the Tretyakov gallery and is never given out to the exhibition.
