In the ocean found a new volcano

The volcano was discovered in the Western Pacific ocean, near the island of Minamitorishima.

Researchers from Tohoku University have discovered a new spotted the volcano in the oldest part of the Pacific plate.

Spotted (Petit-spot) volcanoes are a relatively new phenomenon on Earth. Young small volcanoes that appear along the cracks at the base of tectonic plates.

As soon as tectonic plates sink deeper in the upper mantle of the Earth, there are cracks where the plate begins to bend, causing the eruption of small volcanoes. First detection of small volcanoes was done in 2006 about the Japanese trench, located to the North-East of Japan.
