On Tuesday, October 17, in the city of Gemert in the South of the Netherlands opened the first bridge in the world, printed on a 3D printer. Although designed for cyclists, its creators claim that the design will withstand the weight of 40 trucks!

The bridge was designed and printed by students of the Technical University in Eindhoven. It is their joint project with the construction company BAM Infra.

Work began in June. In September, all components were ready for installation. The length of the bridge is 8 meters. As a material for printing used concrete. Only 800 were printed word, the thickness of each of which is 1 centimeter.

The representative of BAM Infra told reporters that this method was more efficient and environmentally friendly. Besides, it is cheaper.

The experiment has been continued. In the near future, the company and the Technical University in Eindhoven intend to try out the technique in the construction of houses and other structures.
