В Альпах нашли уникальные артефакты Belonged to the bronze age hunters or herders

Pieces of the 4,000-year-old bow, arrows and a wooden container that belonged to the mountaineer bronze age, was found on the mountain pass in Switzerland. The artifacts were found near the glacier at 2700 meters in the Bernese Alps.

It is believed that bow, arrows, a box for food and other items belonged to the bronze age hunters or herdsmen, who had taken refuge under a large rock near the top of the pass, about 4000 years ago, says Regula Gabler, an archaeologist of the government of the Canton of Bern.

The site was discovered in 2011 by a local Bit-Dietrich, when he was walking his dog near the top of the pass. In the summer the glacier melted more than usual, revealing pieces of ancient wood and leather. Regula Gabler and other archaeologists of the Archaeological service of the Canton of Berne then examined the area and found several items during excavations in 2012, but bad weather prevented them to finish the excavation.

The latest find, discovered by researchers in September, include four piece of wood, two of birch tipped arrows and pieces of skin. It was previously detected pieces of curved wood from the bows and a wooden box that once stored the grain flour. Carbon Dating showed that the items were manufactured between 2000 and 1800 BC.

Analysis of the wooden container showed that it had once contained flour made of various grains, including wheat, rye and barley. Gabler believes that the box was carrying flour, which is mixed with water or milk already on halts. Bows and arrowheads indicate that perhaps it was the Parking lot of hunters, but perhaps it was the shepherds who wore bows and arrows to protect their animals from predators.
