In Sweden learn how to effectively destroy cancer cells

В Швеции научились эффективно уничтожать раковые клетки A new way of treating cancer invented by local scientists.

A group of researchers from Lund University (in Sweden) were able to “reprogram” human skin cells into immune cells. This process could be key in the fight against cancer.

The researchers found three proteins, which are the connective tissue can be turned into “dendritic cells”. These cells help to monitor the work of the tissues, and to detect viruses, bacteria and cancer cells. The behavior of artificial cells is no different from natural.

Experts have identified 3 specific factor PU.1, IRF8, and BATF3, which are involved in the process of differentiation of dendritic cells. Based on this from the cells of connective tissue fibroblasts create “personal” dendritic cells that behave like “real”, but it is less susceptible to neoplastic agents.

It took specialists nine days into reprogramming. Now they hope to use the new tool in the fight against cancer.

“Tumors often have a number of unique mutations, which complicates their detection by the immune system. Therefore, the reprogramming of dendritic cells in can be the key to create “tailor-made” vaccine against cancer. The tumor itself will become a source of specific antigens for immunity. We call this approach TrojanDC (DC – Dendritic cells),” said author Carlos Pereira.

According to scientists, the three proteins are planned to be introduced directly into the tumor, so that itself was specific to the cancer antigens. The result will be the opportunity to incite the attacking of immune cells to the cancer cells and destroy them.
