The publication claims that it has at its disposal 78 thousand documents of the commercial register of Luxembourg, which allowed them to identify Belgian companies and individuals using low-tax Luxembourg.

Journalists managed to find company of well-known politicians, athletes and artists. More than 60% of people from hundreds of rich people in Belgium have created at least one company in the Grand Duchy.

Often these companies have only Inbox and they don’t carry out any activities, except for ownership of shares in other companies, sometimes located overseas (British virgin Islands, Panama), and do not pay taxes, except for a few thousand euros as a tax on wealth.

“If you take the top 50 richest people in Belgium, eight out of ten of them have financial companies in Luxembourg. The total share capital of their companies over 48 billion euros. And their assets are close to 54 billion euros,” – says the article.

In the list of owners of these companies – a key Belgian shareholders of the world’s largest beer producer AB InBev, the former Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, a Flemish textile magnate Philip Vlerick, businesswoman Michelle Sion, which was recently chosen the Belgian Manager of the year.
