People from Chechnya living in Bremen, was sentenced to four years in prison for participation in the group “Islamic state”. The defendant went to Syria in 2014.

The higher regional court of Hamburg on Monday, August 20, sentenced 29-year-old native of Chechnya, who lived in Bremen, to four years and two months in prison for membership in a terrorist group “Islamic state”.

The court found that in 2014, the accused went from Germany to Turkey and from there to Syria, where he joined the ranks of jihadists of ISIS. According to the Agency dpa, during the meeting were presented the photo and video evidence. They show the accused as part of a military convoy of militants “Islamic state”, which was directed to the city of Kobane (in Arabic ain al-Arab) in Northern Syria. In 2014, there were fierce battles jihadists with the Kurdish groups.

The defendant admitted that the video and photos show it, however, his participation in hostilities was not possible to prove. The man was wounded in the leg during one of the battles in January 2015 returned to Bremen, where he later was arrested by the police. The trial began in late April 2018. The defense intends to appeal the verdict.
