The community is constantly threatened with eviction, and in recent years the fight has intensified.

Soon after the Wharf was occupied by squatters in 1997, the owner, Bertus Luske, drove the crane and tried to demolish the buildings while the men slept, but nothing came of it. Several old buildings that were used for ships, now populated mostly by artists and sculptors who use them for their projects. The community is constantly threatened with eviction, and in recent years the fight has intensified.
The Council of state ruled that the squatters must go by Christmas, but the community is still looking for ways to stay. 125 residents point to the cultural value of the community and say that it is impossible to move to another place.
