Lithuania is better prepared than in 2009 and 2013, and the country now has more tools for defense.
Lithuania prepared for the military of the Russian-Belarusian exercises Zapad-2017 better than ever. This was stated by President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite.
“I’m happy that we were prepared much better than during doctrines “the West” in 2009 and 2013. Now we are better prepared: we have more tools to deter and defense on our territory, we also help our partners and friends from NATO to see more, hear more and know more,” said Grybauskaite.
She also noticed that the exercises are already taking place, although they officially will begin only today.
Military threat to Russia from Belarus, where the exercises “West-2017”, is expected after the completion of the maneuvers, said the President of Lithuania.
“First, I want to say that the teachings of the West are, I think about a month. We have seen concentrate more and more troops as it goes. So, should not concentrate on 14-20 September, because this so-called active phase, and in fact is a VIP-like part when guests arrive, pass the demonstration exercises. Therefore, before this period and after activity increased,” – said Grybauskaite.
