Google announced the closure in 2014 of the platform of augmented reality Tango.
In the framework of this project there have been several devices, including commercial (Phab Lenovo 2 Pro and ASUS ZenFone AR). They were equipped with a large number of sensors to create three-dimensional models of the surrounding space and determine the exact location of the user.
As it became known, Google has not completely abandoned the Tango and began to use more advanced technology.
“We stop supporting Tango March 1, 2018. Thanks to our incredible community of developers who have made such progress with Tango for the past three years. We look forward to continuing the journey with the platform ARCore,” said Google representatives.
Thus, Google switched to ARCore development platform of augmented reality that ARKit is analogous to Apple’s. The advantage of ARCore on Tango is that her work fits virtually any smartphone with Android 7.0 and above.
