Donald trump: I hate the Ukrainian question

Donald trump, won the presidential elections in the United States in March gave an interview to the newspaper The New York Times, which touched on the topic of U.S. foreign policy. While the US is a wave of protests against his landslide victory in the elections, we present excerpts from the interview.

In particular, answering questions of journalists, trump said that he “hates the Ukrainian question”. “I have many friends in Ukraine, I care about this problem, but I can not understand – why the U.S. should intervene in this issue? We are fighting for Ukraine, as no one but themselves. It is unfair and illogical. Why neighboring Ukraine, the country takes a neutral position on the question of why, for example, Germany is not so much involved in this issue, as the United States? Because they all need something from Russia – gas, oil, or something else. So they keep their mouths shut and only we scream loud enough: “We have to stop! We have to stop!”. The Ukrainian question is only a consequence of the confrontation between the US and Russia.”

This statement trump continues the main idea, which he expressed in the beginning of the interview – USA may no longer be the world’s policeman. “One of the world’s major problems is nuclear safety. For example, the question of our relationship with Japan is complicated by the North Korean threat. I like Japan, I have many friends, I do business in Japan. However, if, for example, the US is under nuclear attack, the Japanese will not do anything, they will not intervene in the situation. But if on the contrary, the United States will have to respond with all military power. This kind of unilateral agreement and it is a real problem.”

Trump also lamented the fact that America is unable to confront cyber-attacks. “Our cyber protection is outdated. Yes, we have created a cyber weapon, but it is now obsolete, and today, America is a toy in the hands of unknown forces. We can’t really say who has the real power in cyber space. Someone thinks that it’s China, someone that is Russia”. While trump said that Edward Snowden has created for US a lot of problems and the fact that Snowden is currently unavailable USA, it only pleases.

Speaking about the Syrian question, trump said that the idea to start a war with Assad and ISIS (banned in Russia) is “insanity and idiocy”. “I don’t want to say that Assad is a good man. This is not so. But our main problem is not Assad, it’s ISIS”.

The fight against ISIS and global terrorism in General trump connects with the reform of NATO and US role in the Alliance. “I’ll tell you what problems we have with NATO. We pay too much NATO! A disproportionate amount. You criticized me for my tough stance against Brussels, but I will say it again: Brussels is a shit-hole. We pay too much, and America has virtually no money. Our foreign debt will soon reach $21 trillion. but we continue to defend everyone, the whole world. It’s unreasonable”.

Speaking about the reform of NATO, trump emphasized that this structure is no longer timely, as it was created as a counterweight to the military might of the USSR. “The Soviet Union is no more. We live in a different world. There is Russia – a country with a smaller territory and, in theory, with fewer features. A much greater threat to global stability is terrorism, and NATO is simply not adapted to deal with it. It’s too cumbersome, bureaucratic and expensive system”. According to trump, for the purposes of counter-terrorism perhaps more efficient will be different structure.
