The German energy group RWE is investing billions in the development of a Offshore Wind Farm off the British coast. The company gave a final blow to the investment decision on Wednesday.
The total investment in the Sofia wind farm is estimated at around GBP 3 billion, or about EUR 3.5 billion. It is RWE’s largest offshore project worldwide. The wind farm is to be built on the Dogger Bank sandbank east of northern England and should be completed by the closing quarter of 2026.
The wind farm is expected to have a capacity of 1.4 gigawatts. That is enough to cover the annual electricity needs of 1.2 million British households.
